No...this is a dumb movie. I don't watch hardly any of these kinds of movies. Where there's a big CGI monster that's killing everyone. So I can't say if this is on a par with those or if it's good compared to those movies, but this is a really stupid movie. You got to think that the writers of these kinds of movies are either really dumb or they think everyone else is so dumb that they just write really dumb things into the script. Dumb characters, dumb dialogue, dumb circumstances, dumb plot devices, and dumb themes.
The CGI monster was SO bad looking. Especially the first one. It's campy. The acting really isn't that bad. The main guy is good, I've never seen him in anything but i thought he was good. I also think he could be a great bad guy in a horror film. He's got a great scream and growl. Everyone played their stupid part really well, it's just that they all had stupid parts.
Now... the "controversial ending.... I liked it.. because it was a little unconventional. But at the same time, what the F else did you think was gonna happen?
